파주시가 대규모 돔구장 조성을 위한 타당성 조사의 중간 성과를 점검하며 본격적인 추진 동력을 확보하고 있다.
파주시는 23일 '파주 돔구장 조성사업 타당성 조사 및 기본계획 수립 용역' 중간보고회를 개최하고, 돔구장 조성 방향에 대한 중간 검토 결과를 공유했다고 24일 밝혔다.
이번 보고회는 지난 7월 착수보고회 이후 약 5개월간 진행된 용역의 중간 성과를 점검하기 위해 마련됐다.

김경일 파주시장과 박정 국회의원을 비롯해 파주도시관광공사, 파주시체육회 관계자 등이 참석한 가운데, 돔구장의 입지 검토 결과와 적정 규모 설정 등 핵심 사항이 집중적으로 논의됐다.
파주시는 GTX-A 노선과 경의중앙선 등 광역 철도망, 서울~문산고속도로와 수도권제2순환고속도로 등 우수한 광역 교통 인프라를 갖춘 수도권 핵심 성장 도시로 평가받고 있다.
도시 규모 확대와 인구 증가에 따라 대규모 스포츠·문화 기반시설 확충 필요성이 지속적으로 제기돼 왔으며, 시는 이러한 지역 여건과 시민 수요를 반영해 돔구장과 스포츠·문화 융복합 시설 조성을 중장기 전략사업으로 추진하고 있다.
파주시는 현재 돔구장 조성의 필요성과 경제성, 입지 타당성, 사업성 등을 종합적으로 검토하기 위한 타당성 조사 및 기본계획 수립 용역을 진행 중이다.
특히 이달 초에는 돔구장 조성사업과 관련한 기술적 자문과 정보 교류를 위해 업무협약을 체결하며 용역 검토 과정의 전문성과 완성도를 높였다.
파주시 관계자는 "이번 중간보고회에서 제시된 의견을 바탕으로 분석 내용을 보완·정교화하고, 향후 최종보고회를 통해 돔구장 조성에 대한 기본계획을 마련해 나갈 것"이라고 밝혔다.
