한국지방자치경쟁력지수는 1996년부터 매년 전국 지방자치단체를 시·군·구 그룹별로 나눠 평가하는 지표로, 통계연보와 중앙부처·유관기관의 공식 통계 등 4만여 개의 기초데이터를 분석해 경영자원(300점), 경영활동(300점), 경영성과(400점) 등 3개 부문과 종합경쟁력(1000점)을 평가해 우수 지자체를 선정·공개하고 있다.
군은 2024년 종합경쟁력 전국 군단위 4위(경영자원 3위, 경영활동 2위, 경영성과 10위)에서 2025년 종합경쟁력 전국 군단위 2위(경영자원 3위, 경영활동 1위, 경영성과 14위)로 두 단계 상승하며 경쟁력을 한층 강화한 것으로 나타났다.
특히 군 단위 경영활동 부문이 2위에서 1위로 올라서며 군 단위 지자체 가운데 최상위 수준의 행정 역량을 입증했고, 경영자원 부문도 3위를 유지하며 안정적인 성장 기반을 재차 확인했다.
