양기대 전 더불어민주당 의원(전 광명시장)은 1월4일 “최근 제기된 현직 국회의원과 서울시의원 간 공천 헌금 수수 의혹과 관련해 “공천 관련 금품 수수자는 정치에서 영구 퇴출해야 한다”라고 주장했다.
양기대 전 의원은 4일 자신의 페이스북 글에서 “공천을 둘러싼 돈과 권력의 잘못된 관행이 반복돼 온 국민의힘에 대해 국민 다수가 이미 냉소적 시선을 갖고 있다”라며 “그럼에도 더불어민주당만큼은 다를 것이라는 기대가 있었는데, 이번 의혹은 그 믿음에 찬물을 끼얹은 사건”이라고 지적했다.
그는 정청래 민주당 대표가 공천 관련 금품수수에 대해 무관용 원칙을 천명하며 “이번 사태를 계기로 환부를 도려내고, 비리의 유혹은 꿈조차 꾸지 못하도록 발본색원하고 원천 봉쇄해야 한다”라고 강조한 것은 강력한 의지를 보여준 것이라고 말했다. 또한 양 전 의원은 “공천은 누구에게나 투명해야 하며, 공정한 기회가 동등하게 보장돼야 한다”라며 “정당의 공천은 공직 후보를 추천하는 가장 중요한 책무로 그 과정에 돈이 오간다면 이는 현대판 매관매직과 다를 바 없다”라고 비판했다.
이어 “민주당은 김대중·노무현 정신, 즉 도덕성과 원칙 위의 정치를 당의 뿌리로 삼아온 정당”이라며 “공천 관련 금품 수수자를 영구 퇴출하고 다시는 정치권에 발을 붙이지 못하도록 법과 제도를 정비해야 한다”라고 했다.
