Yangju City to Launch Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) Project for Stray Cats in 2026
The neutering of stray cats is essential for the harmonious coexistence of stray cats and humans, and plays a significant role in creating a pleasant urban environment.
[Break News Yangju=Kim Wan-young] Yangju City, Gyeonggi Province, will launch a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) project in earnest in 2026 to control the stray cat population and resolve conflicts among residents.
This project aims to address the local stray cat breeding problem through the capture, neutering, and in-situ release of stray cats, and to create a pleasant urban environment where people and animals can coexist.
The project period will run from February 2026 until the budget is exhausted, excluding the rainy season, extreme heat, and extreme cold. Yangju City aims to neuter a total of 909 stray cats this year with a budget of approximately 100 million won. The city plans to capture and release them, focusing on areas with high public complaints.
Citizens wishing to neuter their stray cats can apply in person at the Livestock Division of the Agricultural Technology Center, their local administrative welfare center, or by email. The application period is from January 12 to January 30.
A Yangju City official stated, "The neutering project is essential for the harmonious coexistence of stray cats and people, and will play a significant role in creating a pleasant urban environment. We ask for the active participation of citizens."
For further inquiries about the neutering project, please contact the Animal Welfare Team of the Livestock Division of the Yangju City Agricultural Technology Center (☎ 031-8082-7362).
