이번 토론회는 단일 방산 사업으로는 역대 최대 규모인 60조원 규모의 캐나다 잠수함 도입 사업(CPSP)을 앞두고, 경쟁국인 독일의 거센 추격을 따돌리기 위한 ‘필승 전략’을 모색하기 위해 마련됐다.
김병주 위원장은 환영사에서 “캐나다 잠수함 사업 수주는 대한민국이 글로벌 방산 4대 강국으로 도약하기 위한 이재명 정부의 핵심 과제이자 마일스톤(결정적 이정표)”이라며, “절충교역을 통해 방위산업뿐만 아니라 다른 산업의 성장과 글로벌 안보에도 파급력이 큰 범정부적 사안인 만큼, 민∙관∙군이 하나의 팀이 되어 총력 대응해야 한다”고 역설했다.
