The Blue House, which has requested the death penalty for former President Yoon Seok-yeol, has stated that it will make a ruling in accordance with law and principles.
Former President Chun Doo-hwan's death sentence, nearly 30 years after his death... Yoon: "I wanted to inform the sovereign people of the national emergency... Objective facts and special prosecutor's indictment are delusions and fictions that do not conform to basic legal principles."

On the 13th, the Blue House expressed its disapproval of the special prosecutor's request for the death penalty for former President Yoon Seok-yeol (assistant special prosecutor Park Eok-soo), stating, "We expect the judiciary to render a verdict that is in line with the law and principles and in line with the public's expectations."
The Blue House announced this in a notice issued by the Spokesperson's Office that evening. This marks the first death sentence for a former president in approximately 30 years, since the death of former President Chun Doo-hwan.
The special prosecutor's request for the death penalty for former President Yoon was made at a trial held that evening at the 25th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Ji Gwi-yeon), and demanded the death penalty, the maximum sentence, for Yoon, citing "an unprecedented case of constitutional destruction by anti-state forces."
In his final statement, former President Yoon stated, "As the president, charged with the grave responsibility of protecting the independence, continuity, and constitution of the Republic of Korea, I sought to inform the people of this national emergency and appeal for their cooperation in overcoming it."
He also refuted the special prosecutor's indictment for sedition, saying, "It is a delusion and fiction that does not conform to objective facts and basic legal common sense," and "If the National Assembly had been dissolved in the past and a national referendum had been pushed to amend the Constitution in order to seize power, who among the people today would agree to this?"
