【브레이크뉴스 경주】박영재 기자=경주시가 16일 황리단길 공영주차장 조성공사를 완료하고 준공식을 개최했다고 밝혔다.
시에 따르면 이날 황리단길 공영주차장 광장에서 열린 준공식에는 주낙영 경주시장을 비롯해 최병준 경북도의원, 황남동·황오동·월성동 주민 등 200여 명이 참석했다.
황리단길은 첨성대와 천마총 등 주요 관광지와 인접한 경주의 대표 관광지로, 관광객 증가에 따라 주차 공간 부족과 교통 혼잡 문제가 지속적으로 제기돼 왔다.
경주시는 주차난 해소를 위해 총사업비 245억 원을 투입해 2021년 실시설계에 착수했으며, 2024년까지 사전 행정절차와 토지 보상을 완료했다. 이후 지난해 5월 공사에 들어가 같은 해 12월 공사를 마무리하며 총 894면의 주차 공간을 확보했다.
공영주차장은 현재 주민과 관광객에게 개방돼 운영 중이다. 시는 주차장 이용객의 이동 편의를 높이기 위해 시내버스 4대를 투입해 동부사적지 등을 순환하는 3개 노선을 신설했으며, 이 가운데 최소 1대는 하반기까지 2층 버스로 운영하는 방안도 검토하고 있다.
황리단길 공영주차장은 올해 상반기까지 무료로 운영되며, 하반기에는 운영 주체가 경주시설관리공단으로 이관돼 유료화가 추진될 예정이다.
경주시는 이번 공영주차장 준공과 연계 교통 대책을 통해 황리단길 일원의 주차 여건이 개선되고 도심 관광 동선도 한층 원활해질 것으로 기대하고 있다.
주낙영 경주시장은 “황리단길 공영주차장 조성으로 주민과 관광객의 주차 불편이 상당 부분 해소될 것으로 본다”며 “앞으로도 시민 생활 편의와 관광 활성화를 위한 기반 시설 확충에 지속적으로 힘쓰겠다”고 말했다.

Construction began in May of last year and was completed in December of the same year, securing a total of 894 parking spaces.
The public parking lot is currently open to residents and tourists. To improve the convenience of parking lot users, the city has deployed four city buses to operate three new routes circulating around the Dongbu Historic Site. The city is also considering operating at least one double-decker bus by the second half of the year.
The Hwangridan-gil public parking lot will be free until the first half of this year. In the second half, operation will be transferred to the Gyeongju Facilities Management Corporation, and a paid parking system will be introduced.
Gyeongju City expects the completion of the public parking lot and related transportation measures to improve parking conditions along Hwangridan-gil and streamline tourist routes within the city.
Gyeongju Mayor Joo Nak-young stated, "The construction of the Hwangridan-gil public parking lot will significantly alleviate parking inconveniences for residents and tourists. We will continue to strive to expand infrastructure to enhance the convenience of citizens and promote tourism."
