<브레이크뉴스 태백=김일웅 기자> 강원랜드 임직원들이 매서운 한파 속에 석탄산업전환지역(폐광지역) 이웃들을 찾아 따뜻한 연탄 나눔 봉사를 펼쳤다.
27일 태백시사회복지협의회에 따르면, 최철규 부사장을 단장으로 하는 강원랜드 임직원 봉사단은 지난 26일 오후 태백시를 비롯한 폐광지역 4개 시·군 일원에서 에너지 취약가구를 대상으로 연탄 배달 봉사활동을 진행했다.
이번 활동은 겨울철 난방비 부담으로 어려움을 겪는 지역 내 저소득층에게 실질적인 도움을 주고, 공기업으로서 지역사회와 상생하겠다는 의지를 다지기 위해 마련됐다.
특히 이날 봉사활동은 석탄산업 합리화 이후 경제적 침체를 겪고 있는 4개 시·군(태백·삼척·영월·정선)을 중심으로 이루어져 그 의미를 더했다. 강원랜드 임직원들은 추운 날씨에도 불구하고 직접 지게를 지고 가파른 골목길을 오르며 각 가정 창고에 연탄을 차곡차곡 쌓았다.
최철규 강원랜드 부사장은 현장에서 “석탄산업전환지역은 강원랜드의 태동이자 함께 성장해 온 소중한 터전”이라며, “임직원들이 한마음으로 전달한 이 연탄이 이웃들의 겨울나기에 작게나마 보탬이 되길 바란다”고 말했다. 이어 “앞으로도 지역 주민의 곁에서 현장 중심의 사회공헌 활동을 꾸준히 이어가겠다”고 약속했다.
