[브레이크뉴스=정철규 기자] 진주시는 상습 침수 피해가 반복돼 온 상평3지구를 ‘자연재해위험개선지구’로 신규 지정하고,국·도비 확보를 통한 정비사업을 본격 추진한다고 28일 밝혔다.
자연재해위험개선지구는 지형적·환경적 요인으로 재해 발생 우려가 큰 지역을 지정해, 국비 지원을 통해 침수·붕괴 위험을 근본적으로 개선하는 제도다.
시는 지난 2025년 2월부터 12월까지 타당성 검토 용역을 실시하고, 행정안전부 전문가 의견을 반영해 올해 초 지구 지정 절차에 착수했다.
지정 대상은 상평동 무림페이퍼 일원 4만8000㎡로, 현재 행정예고를 거쳐 지구 지정과 지형도면 고시 등 관련 행정절차가 진행 중이다.
상평3지구는 이번 지정으로 국·도비 지원을 받아 침수 예방과 배수시설 개선 사업을 단계적으로 추진할 수 있게 됐다.
시는 지형 특성과 강우 유형을 종합 분석한 결과를 토대로 실효성 있는 재해 예방 대책을 마련해 시민 피해를 최소화한다는 방침이다.
진주시 관계자는 “이번 지구 지정을 통해 재해 취약지역을 사전에 관리하고 시민의 생명과 재산 보호에 주력할 계획이다”고 말했다.
