<브레이크뉴스 경기북부 = 이용하 기자> 포천시가 관내 거주하는 외국인 주민들이 한국 사회에 빠르게 적응하고 자립할 수 있도록 돕는 교육 과정을 본격적으로 시작했다.
포천시는 외국인 주민의 안정적인 지역사회 정착을 위한 '2026년 1학기 사회통합프로그램'과 '맞춤형 한국어 교육'을 개강했다고 3일 밝혔다.

지난 1월 31일과 2월 1일 각각 문을 연 '사회통합프로그램'은 포천시 직영의 포천외국인주민지원센터에서 운영된다. 이 프로그램은 이민자가 우리 사회 구성원으로 살아가기 위해 필수적인 한국어와 한국 문화, 사회에 대한 이해를 돕는 과정이다. 특히 이수 시 비자 변경 등에 필요한 한국어 능력 점수를 인정받을 수 있어 외국인 주민들의 호응이 높다.
현재 3단계와 4단계 과정에 각 25명씩 총 50명이 참여하고 있으며, 교육은 총 100시간 동안 진행된다. 수강생은 80시간 이상 출석해야 평가 자격이 주어지며, 시험에 합격해야 다음 단계로 승급할 수 있다.
이와 함께 수준별 맞춤형 한국어 교육도 병행한다. 시는 사전 레벨 테스트를 통해 수강생을 기초반과 초급반으로 나누었으며, 오는 8일부터 본격적인 수업을 진행할 예정이다.
포천시 관계자는 "이번 교육이 언어 장벽으로 어려움을 겪는 외국인 주민들에게 실질적인 도움이 되길 바란다"며 "앞으로도 외국인 주민들이 지역사회에 자연스럽게 융화될 수 있도록 다양한 지원 프로그램을 발굴·운영하겠다"고 말했다.
