[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 경남연구원은 9일 창원컨벤션센터(CECO)에서 열린 ‘경남 전망 2026’ 국제 콘퍼런스는 경남의 미래 20년을 결정지을 구체적인 실행 전략을 모색하는 자리였다.
이번 행사는 경상남도의회, 시·군 지자체, 국책연구원 등 경남의 미래를 움직이는 핵심 관계자 150여 명이 모여 ‘경제수도 경남’의 실현 가능성을 점검했다.
기조강연자로 나선 이관옥 싱가포르국립대 교수는 “경남의 미래 도약을 위해 세계적 도시국가인 싱가포르의 발전 모델을 어떻게 접목할 것인가”라는 화두를 던졌다.
이 교수는 싱가포르가 좁은 영토적 한계를 극복하고 글로벌 경제 허브가 된 핵심 비결로 ▲강력한 거버넌스 ▲외국인 투자 친화적 환경 ▲디지털 기술 기반의 도시 효율화를 꼽았다.

이어 오동호 경남연구원장은 ‘2040 경남 미래비전: 경제수도로 가는 길’을 발표하며 경남이 직면한 인구 감소와 산업 노후화 문제를 정면으로 돌파할 전략을 제시했다.
오 원장은 경남이 대한민국 경제 성장의 중심으로 도약하기 위해 필요한 것은 ‘수도권에 준하는 독립적 경제 생태계’ 구축임을 역설했다. 특히 부산·진해경제자유구역청 등 유관 기관과의 긴밀한 협력을 통해 물류와 제조가 결합된 ‘메가 경제권’ 형성을 강조했다.
2부 세션에서는 2026년 경제·산업 분야에서의 경남 핵심 이슈를 주제로 한 발표와 토론이 이어졌다.
