최민호 세종시장이 12일 설 명절을 앞두고 세종대평시장에서 장을 보며 전통시장 활성화와 지역 상권 회복에 힘을 보탰다.
시에 따르면 최 시장은 이날 시 직원과 관내 공공기관 임직원 등 80여 명과 함께 금남면 용포리 세종대평시장에서 각 점포를 돌며 명절 물가동향을 파악하고 명절 제수용품과 생필품을 구매했다.
세종대평시장은 1940년대부터 자연 발생한 세종시 남부권의 유일한 전통시장으로, 지역민들에게 꾸준한 사랑을 받고 있다.
특히 신도시에서 가장 가까이 있는 전통시장의 특성을 살려 공무원과 공공기관 근로자의 외식 수요를 노린 음식점 중심의 상권으로 성장 중이다.
이에 따라 시는 2023∼2024년 ‘대평시장 밤나들 야시장’, 2025년 ‘맛대맛 대평시장 스탬프투어’ 등 행사 지원을 통해 전통시장 살리기에 집중하고 있다.
앞으로도 세종대평시장이 신도시 주민들의 수요에 빠르게 발맞출 수 있도록 상인회와 지속적으로 협력해 현대화 사업 등을 지원할 계획이다.
최민호 시장은 “설 명절을 맞아 많은 시민이 전통시장을 찾아 지역 상권 활성화에 함께 해주길 바란다”며 “앞으로도 우리 전통시장과 지역경제가 더욱 활기를 띨 수 있도록 노력하겠다”고 말했다.
한편, 시는 오는 14일에도 조치원읍 세종전통시장에서 설 명절 준비를 위한 장보기 행사를 열고 내수 침체로 어려움을 겪는 전통시장 상인들에게 실질적인 도움을 줄 예정이다.
