BTS 멤버 다수가 졸업한 글로벌사이버대학교(본교 천안)가 미국 뉴멕시코주 상원으로부터 뇌교육 프로그램의 탁월한 공로를 인정받아 공식 표창을 받았다고 19일 밝혔다.
학교에 따르면 이번 표창은 2026년 제57회 뉴멕시코주 의회 정기회기 결의안을 통해 이루어졌으며, 뇌교육이 지역사회 교육 발전과 주민 건강 증진에 실질적으로 기여한 점을 높게 평가했다.
뇌교육은 신경과학 기반의 전인적인 교육 모델로서 학생과 교사, 학부모의 정서 조절 및 회복탄력성 강화에 도움을 주는 교육 방식이다.
뉴멕시코주에서는 2012년부터 뇌교육이 아동·청소년과 교사 연수에 도입되었고, 2017년에는 ‘뇌교육의 날’을 제정할 정도로 교육 현장에 깊숙이 자리 잡았다. 미국 내에서는 워싱턴DC, 뉴욕시 등 27개 도시에서 ‘뇌교육의 날’이 지정되는 등 보급이 확대되고 있다.

글로벌사이버대학교 공병영 총장은 “이번 표창은 한국 뇌교육이 학문적 가치를 넘어 미국 현지 공교육과 지역 사회에 긍정적 변화를 가져왔다는 증거”라며, “앞으로도 인공지능 시대에 인간 고유의 잠재력을 깨우는 교육을 통해 국내외 ‘K-교육’을 선도하겠다”고 밝혔다.
한편, 글로벌사이버대학교는 BTS 멤버 7명 중 6명이 재학하거나 졸업해 ‘BTS 모교’로 세계적으로 알려져 있으며, K-POP 아티스트를 다수 배출하는 한류 교육의 중심지로 꼽힌다. 최근 사이버대학 브랜드평판 10개월 연속 1위를 기록하며 온라인·오프라인 경계를 넘어선 우수 교육 콘텐츠의 힘을 입증했다.
