<브레이크뉴스 태백 = 김일웅 기자> 태백시가 인공지능(AI) 기술을 활용해 지역 내 홀몸 어르신들의 정서적 안정과 생활 안전을 동시에 챙기는 '스마트 돌봄 체계' 구축에 나선다.
시는 조달청이 주관하는 ‘2026년 혁신제품 시범사용 공모사업’에 최종 선정됨에 따라, AI 기반 돌봄로봇인 ‘초롱이’를 활용한 스마트 돌봄서비스를 대폭 확대한다고 밝혔다.
이번 사업을 통해 관내 홀몸 및 취약계층 어르신 가정에 총 100대의 AI 돌봄로봇이 설치되며, 앞으로 약 10개월간 시범 운영에 들어간다. 돌봄로봇 ‘초롱이’는 어르신들과 일상적인 대화를 나누며 정서적 교감을 나누는 것은 물론, 우울증이나 치매 의심 징후, 긴급 위기 상황 등을 스스로 감지해 관리자에게 즉각 알림을 보내는 똑똑한 기능까지 갖췄다.
앞서 태백시는 2023년부터 저소득 홀몸 어르신 50명을 대상으로 'AI 반려인형 지원사업'을 운영하며 고독사 위험 조기 발견 및 정서적 안정 효과를 톡톡히 확인한 바 있다. 이번 시범 사업은 기존 사업의 성과를 바탕으로 기능을 한층 고도화하고 지원 대상을 넓힌 것이다.
태백시 관계자는 “그동안 AI 돌봄인형 사업을 진행하며 현장에서 스마트 정서 돌봄의 필요성을 절감했다”며, “이번 시범운영을 통해 통합돌봄과 연계한 서비스를 더욱 촘촘하게 확대해, 어르신들이 안심하고 편안하게 생활할 수 있는 환경을 만들겠다”고 전했다.
