빚을 갚게 해주겠다는 감언이설로 채무자들을 해외로 유인해 여권을 빼앗고, 강제로 보이스피싱 범행에 가담시킨 악랄한 범죄 조직이 경찰의 끈질긴 수사 끝에 덜미를 잡혔다.
대전중부경찰서는 지난 2019년 2월부터 올해 6월까지 중국 위해와 필리핀 마닐라를 거점으로 활동하며 보이스피싱 범행을 저지른 조직원 76명을 검거해 검찰에 송치했다고 23일 밝혔다.
이 중 총책 A씨를 포함한 11명은 구속 상태로 재판을 받게 됐다.
경찰에 따르면 이들은 시중은행 직원을 사칭하며 "저금리 대환대출을 해주겠다"고 피해자들을 현혹해 62명으로부터 총 47억 원을 가로챈 혐의를 받는다. 경찰은 수사 과정에서 이들이 확보한 범죄수익 56억 원 상당을 특정하고 몰수보전 조치를 완료했다.
특히 이번 수사에서는 조직의 잔혹한 범행 실태가 드러나 충격을 주고 있다.

대전중부경찰서 관계자는 "보이스피싱은 피해자의 삶을 파괴하는 중대한 범죄"라며 "가담한 모든 조직원을 끝까지 추적해 단죄함으로써 보이스피싱이 우리 사회에 발붙이지 못하도록 단호히 대처하겠다"고 밝혔다.
