【브레이크뉴스 경북】진예솔 기자=김상동 전 경북대학교 총장이 4일 경상북도선거관리위원회에 경북교육감 예비후보로 공식 등록했다.
김 예비후보는 “위대한 경북, 글로벌 교육의 중심으로”라는 슬로건을 내걸며, 교육을 통한 지역 정주 여건 개선과 경쟁력 회복을 주요 과제로 삼겠다는 뜻을 밝혔다.
김 예비후보는 이날 등록 직후 “경북이 인구 감소와 학령인구 급감이라는 구조적 위기에 처해 있다”면서 “이제는 교육이 지역의 새로운 성장축이 되어야 한다”고 강조했다. 그는 “일자리 정책만으로는 인구 유출을 막기 어렵다. 아이를 키우기 좋은 교육환경이 갖춰져야 사람들이 정착할 수 있다”며, 교육 정책을 정주 문제 해법의 시작점으로 제시했다.
김 예비후보는 교사와 대학 교수 시절 직접 교육 현장을 경험했으며, 경북대 교무부처장과 기획처장, 제18대 총장 등을 역임했다. 총장 재임 당시에는 학생 중심의 학사 구조 개편, 융복합 교육과정 도입, 대규모 국비 확보를 통한 교육·연구 인프라 개선 등에 힘썼다는 평가를 받았다.
또한 경상북도인재평생교육재단 대표이사를 맡아 초·중등 교육부터 평생교육까지 연계하는 다양한 정책을 추진한 경험도 내세웠다. 최근에는 마숙자 전 김천교육장과 단일화를 이뤄 선거 구도에도 변화를 줬다. 이에 대해 “경북교육의 방향을 하나로 모으겠다는 책임 있는 약속”이라고 설명했다.
김 예비후보는 앞으로 학교 현장, 학부모, 교원 등의 다양한 의견을 반영해 공약을 구체화할 방침이다. 그는 “교육 개편을 통해 경북의 경쟁력을 다시 키우고, 경북이 아이를 키우고 사람이 머무는 지역으로 거듭날 수 있도록 힘쓰겠다”고 밝혔다.

Recently, he transformed the election landscape by unifying the candidacy with former Gimcheon Superintendent of Education Ma Sook-ja. He described this as "a responsible promise to unify the direction of Gyeongbuk education."
Candidate Kim plans to refine his platform by incorporating diverse input from schools, parents, and teachers. He stated, "Through education reform, I will strive to revitalize Gyeongbuk's competitiveness and transform it into a place where people can raise children and live."
