경기도의회 김현석 의원(국민의힘, 과천)이 10일 기자회견을 열고 과천 경마공원 이전 추진과 이를 둘러싼 지자체 유치 경쟁에 대해 “정치적 무책임의 극치”라며 강하게 비판했다.
김현석 의원은 정부의 ‘1·29 주택공급 대책’ 이후 본격화된 경마공원 이전 논란과 관련해 “1조2000억 원을 들여 시설을 옮기고 연간 1조2000억 원의 매출 감소가 예상되는 정책은 전형적인 혈세 낭비”라고 지적했다. 이어 “경기도 31개 시·군 가운데 10개 지자체가 유치 경쟁에 뛰어든 상황은 정책적 검토보다 선거를 앞둔 표심 경쟁으로 변질된 정치적 행태”라고 주장했다.
김현석 의원은 한국마사회 내부 자료를 인용해 “경마공원 이전 시 토지 매입비를 제외하고도 최소 1조2000억 원의 이전 비용이 발생한다”고 설명했다. 또한 수도권 중심 입지를 벗어날 경우 이용객 감소로 연간 매출이 최대 1조2000억 원 줄어들고, 연간 2300억~2400억 원 규모의 영업손실이 발생할 가능성이 있다는 분석도 제시했다.

아울러 김진경 경기도의회 의장과 이소영 국회의원에 대해서도 경마공원 이전 논란에 대한 정치적 책임을 제기했다.
김현석 의원은 “경마공원 이전은 정치적 유불리가 아닌 재정·산업·고용을 종합적으로 고려해야 할 중대한 정책 사안”이라며 “졸속 추진과 지자체 간 정치적 유치 경쟁을 중단하고 원점에서 재검토해야 한다”고 촉구했다.
