충남도지사 출마를 선언한 박수현 국회의원(더불어민주당, 공주·부여·청양)이 인구 감소에 따른 농어촌 지역의 기초·광역의회 의원 정수 감소 위기에 대해 강한 우려를 표하며 대책 마련을 촉구하고 나섰다.
박 의원은 17일 보도자료를 통해 “단순한 인구 수치만을 기준으로 지역의 대표성을 재단하는 것은 지방자치의 본질적인 정신을 훼손하는 일”이라고 비판했다.
현행 공직선거법에 따른 인구 중심의 선거구 획정 방식이 계속될 경우, 인구가 줄고 있는 농어촌 지역의 의원 정수가 줄어들어 지역의 목소리가 중앙과 광역 행정에 제대로 전달되지 못한다는 지적이다.
