경기도의회 건설교통위원회 소속 김성수 의원(더불어민주당, 안양1)이 경부선 안양 구간 철도지하화사업의 조속한 추진 필요성을 강조했다.
김성수 의원이 지난 3월 12일 안양역에서 열린 ‘철도지하화 통합개발사업 비전선포식’에 참석해 축사를 통해 “경부선 철도지하화는 안양이 새롭게 거듭나는 역사적 계기가 될 것”이라며 강한 추진 의지를 밝혔다.
이날 행사는 경기도가 주관했으며, 김 의원을 비롯해 김동연 경기도지사, 이계삼 안양시 부시장, 지역 주민 등이 참석했다. 행사에서는 ‘지도에는 있지만 쓸 수 없었던 지상 철도 부지를 도민에게 돌려드린다’는 비전과 함께 경부선 안양 구간 철도지하화 사업의 추진 방향이 제시됐다.

김성수 의원은 “경기도의회는 전국 최초로 철도지하화사업기금 조례를 제정하는 등 사업 추진을 위한 제도적 기반을 마련해 왔다”며 “이제 ‘종합계획 선정’이라는 마지막 단계만 남은 만큼, 경기도·안양시와 함께 반드시 결실을 맺어야 한다”고 강조했다.
또 “수십 년간 안양을 동서로 단절시켜 온 경부선 철도는 지역 발전의 걸림돌이었다”며 “이번 사업을 통해 단절된 도시 구조를 연결하고, 상부 부지를 도민에게 돌려드림으로써 안양이 새로운 도시로 재탄생하는 계기가 될 것”이라고 밝혔다.
이어 “안양시민과 경기도민의 오랜 염원이 현실이 될 수 있도록, 건설교통위원회 위원으로서 ‘철도지하화 통합개발사업 종합계획’에 경부선 안양 구간이 최종 반영될 때까지 모든 역량을 집중하겠다”고 말했다.
한편 김성수 의원은 2025년 전국 최초로 「경기도 철도지하화사업기금 설치·운용에 관한 조례」를 대표발의하는 등 대규모 재원이 필요한 철도지하화 사업의 안정적 추진 기반 마련에 앞장서 왔다.
