[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 국민의힘 주진우 의원은 18일, 통일교 금품 수수 의혹을 받는 더불어민주당 전재수 의원에 대한 검찰 소환이 “출마 선언을 앞두고 벌어진 보여주기식 수사”라며 강하게 비판했다.
주 의원은 “검찰이 지난해 8월, 전 의원이 통일교로부터 뇌물과 명품 시계를 받았다는 진술을 확보하고도 이제야 소환했다”며 “이는 명백한 사건 뭉개기”라고 주장했다.
그는 “같은 시기 유사한 의혹으로 야당 의원은 구속됐지만, 전 의원 사건은 덮였다”며 “공천 접수와 출마 선언 직전에야 소환한 것은 형평성에 어긋난다”고 지적했다.
이어 “야당 의원에게 적용한 기준대로 전재수 의원에게도 구속영장을 청구해야 한다”며 “검찰이 전 의원의 출마 길을 터주려 한다면 국민이 심판할 것”이라고 경고했다. 그러면서 주 의원은 “통일교에 머리를 숙인 인사에게 부산의 미래를 맡길 수 없다”고 날을 세웠다.
[Here’s the English version of the article] Rep. Joo Jin-woo of the People Power Party criticized the prosecution on the 18th for its investigation into Rep. Chun Jae-soo of the Democratic Party of Korea regarding allegations of receiving money and goods from the Unification Church and called the recent summons a showcase investigation timed right before his announcement of candidacy.
Joo argued that it is a clear case of smothering an investigation because the prosecution only summoned him now despite having secured testimony back in August last year that Rep. Chun had received bribes and luxury watches from the Unification Church.
He further pointed out the lack of fairness and noted that while an opposition lawmaker was arrested for similar allegations during the same period the case against Rep. Chun was effectively covered up and only brought forward just as nomination applications and candidacy announcements were beginning.
Insisting that the prosecution should request an arrest warrant for Rep. Chun by applying the same standards used for opposition lawmakers Joo warned that if the prosecution attempts to clear the path for Rep. Chun’s candidacy they will face the judgment of the people.
He concluded his remarks by asserting that the future of Busan cannot be entrusted to a figure who has bowed his head to the Unification Church.
