(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) ㈔세계여성평화그룹(IWPG, 대표 전나영)이 지난 17일(현지시간) 미국 뉴욕에서 두 개의 국제 행사를 잇따라 개최하며 제70차 유엔 여성지위위원회(CSW70) 참석 일정을 마무리했다고 밝혔다.
IWPG에 따르면, 이날 오전 10시 30분 유엔 인근 처치센터(CCUN) 2층에서 국제여성리더네트워크(INLW), 튀르키예 그린크레센트(Green Crescent)와 공동으로 NGO 포럼을 열었다.
'분쟁 영향 지역에서의 여성 평화 리더십: 회복력과 변화'를 주제로 열린 이번 행사는 네덜란드의 국제 여성 NGO인 INLW와 튀르키예 최대 공중보건 단체인 그린크레센트가 분쟁 지역 여성의 평화 리더십 강화라는 공동의 가치 실현을 위해 힘을 모으며 성사됐다.
최경남 IWPG 사무총장은 기조연설에서 "여성은 피해자나 평화의 수혜자가 아니라 공동체를 회복시키고 평화를 재건하는 핵심 주체"라고 강조했다.
그는 지속가능한 평화를 위해 여성의 인식 전환, 연대를 통한 연결 확장, 현장 목소리의 정책 반영이라는 세 가지 변화가 필요하다고 제시했다.

여성평화교육을 받은 여성들이 전쟁의 무력감을 극복하고 비폭력 소통을 실천하며 난민 캠프 등 분쟁 현장에서 평화를 전파하는 '촉매제'이자 공동체 회복의 '앵커' 역할을 수행하고 있다는 내용이었다.
이 연구는 개인의 변화가 가족과 지역사회의 신뢰 회복 및 조직화로 이어지는 '확산 효과'를 실증했다.
이 팀장은 이러한 풀뿌리 여성 평화 리더십이 지속되기 위해서는 국제적 플랫폼과의 연계 및 제도적 지원 체계 구축이 필수적이라고 강조했다.
같은 날 유엔 본부 7번 회의실에서 주유엔 튀르키예 대표부와 튀르키예 그린크레센트, IWPG, 슬럼차일드재단, 미국 마약방지재단(DFAF), 리커버리닷컴(Recovery.com)이 공동 주최한 사이드 이벤트가 개최됐다.
‘우리 시대의 결정적 과제: 여성의 행동중독과 여성 친화적 공중보건 대응'을 주제로 열린 이번 행사에서 최경남 사무총장은 남수단 출신 여성 사례를 소개하며 "여성이 고립될 때 중독은 깊어지지만, 여성이 연결될 때 회복은 시작된다"고 강조했다.
행사에 참석한 미국 보스턴의 한 대학교수는 "실질적인 변화를 위해서는 평화를 지향하는 국제 여성 단체들의 연대가 필수적"이라며 협력의 중요성을 역설했다.
케냐의 국제 NGO 소속 참석자는 "실천하는 여성들이 모여 대화를 나누는 장을 마련해준 것에 감사하다"며 "내년 이 자리에 다시 모였을 때 일어날 긍정적인 변화들이 벌써부터 기대된다"고 말했다.
이번 CSW70 기간 IWPG는 아프리카연합(AU), 튀르키예 정부 및 그린크레센트, INLW 등의 국제기구·단체와 공동 행사를 진행했다.

The International Women's Peace Group (IWPG, President Jeon Na-young) announced that it concluded its schedule attending the 70th United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) by holding two consecutive international events in New York, USA, on the 17th (local time).
