파주시가 지난 18일, 성매매집결지 내 ‘성평등 파주’에서 시민과 저자, 시 관계자들이 참석한 가운데 이야기 공연(토크 콘서트)을 개최하며 성매매집결지 폐쇄를 향한 사회적 공감대를 확인했다.
이번 행사는 성매매집결지 폐쇄 과정을 지켜본 시민들의 생생한 경험을 기록한 도서「여기 새로운 꿈의 터전을」의 출간을 기념하기 위해 마련됐다.
이하영 작가를 비롯해 시민 26명이 공동 저자로 참여한 이 책에는 집결지의 아픔과 변화를 바라는 간절한 목소리가 담겼다.

행사는 시민들의 ‘한 줄 낭독’으로 막을 올렸다.
참석자들은 집결지의 역사와 그 안에서 느꼈던 복합적인 감정들을 짧은 문장에 담아 공유했다.
이어 성매매 피해를 겪고 탈업에 성공한 한 여성의 글이 대독 되자 현장은 이내 숙연해졌다.
해당 여성은 글을 통해 “처음 폐쇄 소식을 들었을 때는 야속한 마음도 들었지만, 내가 아직도 그곳에 있다고 생각하면 너무나 끔찍하다”라며, “다른 여성들이 유혹에 빠지지 않도록 꾸준한 지원을 통해 용주골(성매매집결지)을 꼭 없애달라”고 호소했다.
파주시는 이번 행사를 통해 집결지 폐쇄가 단순히 공간을 없애는 것을 넘어, 피해자들의 삶을 회복시키는 과정임을 재확인했다.

마지막 순서로 진행된 대화의 시간에서 참석자들은 집결지 폐쇄 이후의 과제에 대해 열띤 토론을 벌였다.
