군장학회는 올해 장학사업 예산을 16억7260만원 규모로 확대 편성하고 초등학생부터 대학생까지 아우르는 촘촘한 장학 지원을 마련했다.
이번 장학금 예산은 음성군 출연금을 활용한 ‘명문학교 육성사업’(9억 6300만원)과 장학회 기금 이자를 활용한 ‘일반 장학사업’(7억960만원)으로 운영된다. 군 장학회는 이를 통해 지역 내 초·중·고·대학생을 포괄하는 장학 지원 체계를 구축할 방침이다.
특히 올해는 동성고등학교 첫 졸업생 배출에 맞춰 ‘우수대학생 특별장학금’을 지난해보다 3600만원 늘어난 3억7200만원을 편성했다. 관내 인문계 고교 졸업자 중 성적 우수자 및 특별지원자 신입생 32명을 비롯해 재학생 등 62명을 선발해 일정 성적 유지 시 학기당 300만원(최대 8학기)을 지원한다.
초등학생을 위한 장학금도 눈길을 끈다. 전국 대회 입상자, 효행·봉사 등 타의 모범이 되는 초등학생 120명을 선발, 1인당 20만원의 특별장학금을 지급한다.

중학교 3학년 70명을 대상으로 하는 명문대 캠퍼스 투어와 대학생 멘토링 프로그램인 ‘우수대학 탐방’ 사업도 지속된다.
