파주시가 GTX-A 개통과 연계해 운정중앙역 역세권에 대규모 복합문화시설 건립을 추진하며 ‘문화 도시’로의 도약을 본격화한다.
시는 최근 ‘운정중앙역 문화공연 콤플렉스’(가칭) 건립을 위한 타당성 조사 및 기본계획 수립 용역을 마무리하고, 후속 행정 절차에 착수했다고 밝혔다.
이번 사업의 핵심은 뮤지컬 전문 공연장을 중심으로 한 대형 문화 인프라 구축이다.

기초자치단체 단일 공연장으로는 최대 규모인 2,000석의 대공연장이 들어설 예정이며, 300석 규모의 소공연장과 함께 다양한 장르의 공연을 수용할 수 있는 다목적 공간도 마련된다.
여기에 전시 공간과 문화교육시설 등 부대시설이 결합돼 복합 문화 거점으로 기능할 전망이다.
그동안 대형 공연 관람을 위해 서울 등 외부 지역으로 이동해야 했던 시민들의 불편을 해소하는 것은 물론, 외부 관람객 유입을 통해 지역 상권 활성화와 경제적 파급 효과도 기대된다.

시는 LIMAC 조사 결과를 토대로 재원 조달 방안과 단계별 추진 전략을 구체화해 공공성과 재정 건전성을 동시에 확보한다는 방침이다.
