[브레이크뉴스=황민성 기자] 밀양시는 밀양 나노융합 국가산업단지 내 연구단지에 국내 유일의 나노물질 특화 안전성 평가 기관인 ‘나노소재·제품 안전성평가 지원센터(이하 센터)’를 개소하고 본격 운영에 들어갔다고 1일 밝혔다.
이번에 개소한 센터는 총사업비 340억원이 투입된 시설로 연면적 4,136㎡, 지상 2층 규모로 조성됐다.
나노물질의 인체 유해성과 생태 독성 평가, 물리·화학적 특성 분석이 가능한 장비 62종을 갖췄으며, 공인시험평가기관인 한국건설생활환경시험연구원(KCL)에서 운영을 맡는다.
그동안 나노소재·제품의 안전성 검증은 해외 기관에 의존해야 했기에 막대한 비용과 긴 시간이 소요됐다.
하지만 이번 센터 가동으로 기업들의 부담이 대폭 줄어들 전망이다.
검증 기간은 기존 1년 이상에서 6개월로 단축되고, 비용은 7~13억원에서 5~10억원 수준으로 약 30% 절감되어 기업들의 기술개발과 제품 상용화가 한층 탄력을 받을 것으로 기대된다.
센터는 향후 2027년까지 국제 공인시험기관 인증(GLP, KOLAS)을 완료하고, 나노기업을 대상으로 본격적인 안전성 평가 서비스를 제공할 계획이다.
밀양시 관계자는 “국내 유일의 나노소재 안전성 평가 기반이 밀양에 구축됨에 따라 나노융합 국가산단의 산업 집적 효과가 더욱 강화될 것으로 기대된다”며 “기업 유치와 일자리 창출 등 지역 산업 활성화에도 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 것으로 본다”고 말했다.
