이번 대회는 기존 가을 개최에서 벗어나 봄 시즌으로 옮겨, 4월 1일부터 5월 31일까지 두 달간 진행된다. 재단은 생동감 있는 봄의 분위기 속에서 어린이들이 보다 자유롭게 창의력을 발휘할 수 있도록 기획했다고 밝혔다.
특히 올해는 참가 편의성을 높이기 위해 운영 방식에 큰 변화를 줬다. 우선 전용 홈페이지를 구축해 참가자들이 대회 정보를 확인하고 접수까지 한 번에 처리할 수 있도록 했다. 참가자는 삼국유사테마파크 현장에서 작품을 완성한 뒤, 작품 사진과 현장 인증사진을 홈페이지에 업로드하면 접수가 완료된다. 작품 원본은 수상 후보로 선정될 경우에만 제출하면 돼 훼손 우려를 줄였다.
창작 환경도 한층 자율적으로 바뀌었다. 참가자는 8절 도화지와 개인 미술 도구를 직접 지참해 수채화, 크레파스 등 자신에게 맞는 방식으로 자유롭게 표현할 수 있다. 또한 대회 참가 어린이에게는 테마파크 무료입장 혜택이 제공된다.
대회 주제는 ‘상상 속의 삼국유사테마파크’로, 전국 유치부(만 3세 이상)와 초등부 어린이라면 누구나 참여할 수 있다. 대상(대구시장상), 최우수상(대구시교육감상), 우수상(군위군수상) 등 총 42점 이상의 상장과 함께 약 330만 원 규모의 부상이 마련됐다.

The original artwork only needs to be submitted if selected as a finalist, thereby reducing concerns about damage.
The creative environment has also become much more autonomous. Participants are required to bring their own 8-size drawing paper and art supplies to freely express themselves using methods that suit them, such as watercolors or crayons.
