“봉사 점수 없어도 마을 위해 모인다”… 안양시, 청소년 봉사 패러다임 전환

대입 반영 축소 등으로 청소년 봉사 활동이 위축되는 가운데, 안양시가 ‘마을 중심의 자기주도형 봉사’라는 새로운 해법을 제시하며 주목받고 있다.

안양시자원봉사센터(센터장 정옥란)는 지난 14일 안양시자원봉사센터 사랑뜰에서 안양서중학교 및 안양부흥중학교와 ‘청소년 자원봉사 실천학교’ 업무협약을 체결했다고 밝혔다. 이번 협약은 봉사 활동을 단순한 시간 이수 수단이 아닌, 학교 교육 과정과 연계한 ‘창의적 체험 활동’으로 전환하기 위해 마련됐다.

협약의 주요 내용은 ▲청소년 진로 탐색 및 창의적 체험 활동 지원 ▲자원봉사 활성화를 위한 인적·물적 자원 연계 ▲지역 사회 봉사 참여 확대를 위한 상호 협력 체계 구축 등이다. 올해는 기존 박달중·부안중에 이어 안양서중과 안양부흥중이 신규 참여하며 안양형 ‘지속 가능한 봉사 모델’이 한층 확대됐다.

주요 프로그램인 ‘우리마을 탄소중립 실험실 리빙랩’은 학생들과 시민 활동가가 함께 지역 환경 문제를 관찰하고 해결하는 참여형 실천 모델이다. 학생들은 앞으로 학의천과 수암천 일대에서 생태계 교란 식물을 식별·제거하고 재래종을 보호하는 등 실질적인 환경 보호 활동에 나서게 된다.

정옥란 안양시자원봉사센터장은 “청소년들이 자원봉사를 의무가 아닌 시민으로서의 권리이자 즐거움으로 인식하길 바란다”며, “앞으로도 학교 현장의 목소리를 반영한 혁신적인 프로그램을 지속적으로 발굴하겠다”고 말했다.
