[브레이크뉴스=정철규 기자] 진주시는 월아산이 16일 경남도 공식 ‘지방정원’으로 등록됨에 따라 국가정원 도약의 기반을 마련했다고 15일 밝혔다.
시는 이번 지방정원 등록을 계기로 오는 2030년 국가정원 지정을 목표로 단계별 확장과 콘텐츠 고도화와 한국형 숲정원 모델 구축을 위한 중장기 전략을 본격 추진할 계획이다.
월아산 정원은 진성면 동산리 일원 약 17만5천㎡ 규모로 조성됐으며, 녹지 비율과 기반시설, 운영체계를 갖춰 지방정원 등록 요건을 충족한 공공 정원으로 평가받고 있다.
월아산 숲속의 진주는 그동안 시민과 관광객이 즐겨 찾는 산림형 정원으로 자리잡으며 휴식과 치유, 체험이 결합된 지역 대표 관광 명소로 성장해 왔다.
또 시는 정원박람회와 정원산업박람회 개최를 통해 정원의 가치와 인지도를 높이고, 정원문화 확산과 산업 기반 조성이라는 두 가지 성과를 동시에 이끌어냈다.
