[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산대학교가 AI 교육과 연구 환경 혁신을 위해 국내 대학 중 최대 규모로 최신 WiFi 7 인프라를 구축하며 스마트캠퍼스 조성에 나섰다.
부산대학교는 기존보다 4배 빠른 무선인터넷 서비스를 제공하는 무선인터넷 서비스 고도화 사업을 본격 추진한다고 밝혔다. 이번 사업은 최신 규격인 WiFi 7 AP 3,200대를 도입하는 것이 핵심이며 오는 8월까지 설치를 완료할 계획이다.
WiFi 7은 이전 규격인 WiFi 6/6E 대비 4배 이상 빠른 속도와 넓은 대역폭을 제공한다. 이를 통해 대규모 인원이 동시에 접속하는 대학 환경에서도 끊김 없는 초고속 연결과 초저지연 서비스를 보장할 수 있게 된다.
부산대는 부산, 양산, 밀양 등 모든 캠퍼스 내 무선인터넷 서비스 공간인 PNU-WiFi Arise-Zone을 대폭 확대한다. 노후 장비 1,120대를 철거하고 중요도에 따라 재배치하여 음영지역을 해소할 예정이다. 특히 강의실과 실습실은 물론 교수 및 대학원생 연구 공간까지 무선인터넷 구축률 100%를 달성한다는 방침이다.
지역사회와의 상생을 위한 개방형 서비스도 도입한다. 부산대는 글로컬대학30 사업의 가치를 실현하기 위해 캠퍼스를 방문하는 지역 주민과 외부인에게도 WiFi 7 기반의 초고성능 무선인터넷을 무료로 개방한다. 이를 통해 지역 디지털 격차 해소에 기여하고 누구나 자유롭게 이용할 수 있는 오픈 캠퍼스를 구현할 계획이다.
최재원 부산대 총장은 이번 WiFi 7 도입이 AI 시대의 교육 패러다임 전환을 선도하기 위한 전략적 시도라고 강조했다. 또한 거점국립대 최대 규모의 정보인프라 혁신을 통해 학생들에게 글로벌 수준의 디지털 교육 환경을 제공하고 캠퍼스 네트워크 고도화를 지속적으로 추진하겠다고 밝혔다.

Pusan National University (PNU) is set to transform its academic environment by deploying the nation’s largest WiFi 7 network, creating a high-speed smart campus optimized for the AI era.
Pusan National University announced on the 21st that it is launching a major wireless network upgrade project to provide internet speeds four times faster than existing standards. The project centers on installing 3,200 WiFi 7 Access Points (APs) across its campuses, with completion scheduled for this August.
WiFi 7 offers more than four times the speed and significantly wider bandwidth compared to previous generations (WiFi 6/6E). This ensures ultra-low latency and high-speed connectivity even in dense university settings where thousands of students and researchers connect simultaneously.
Through this initiative, PNU will dramatically expand its "PNU-WiFi Arise-Zone" across its Busan, Yangsan, and Miryang campuses. The university plans to remove 1,120 outdated units and strategically redistribute equipment to eliminate dead zones. This will result in 100% wireless coverage in all lecture halls, laboratories, and research spaces.
In line with the "Glocal University 30" project’s goal of shared growth, PNU will also open its premium WiFi 7 service to the local community. Residents and visitors will have free access to the high-speed network, a move intended to bridge the digital divide and realize the vision of an "Open Campus."
PNU President Choi Jae-won stated that the large-scale adoption of WiFi 7 is a strategic move to lead the transition in educational paradigms during the AI age. He added that the university will continue to innovate its information infrastructure to provide students with a world-class digital environment.
