브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 윤석열 검찰총장이 '라임자산운용(라임) 사태'와 관련, 검사 비리 의혹을 수사하지 않았다는 추미애 법무부장관의 지적에 관해 "중상모략(中傷謀略, 나쁜 꾀를 써서 상대방을 겨냥하여 다치게 하는 일)은 제가 쓸 수 있는 가장 점잖은 표현이다"고 정면으로 비판했다.
윤 총장은 22일 국회에서 열린 대검찰청에 대한 국정감사에서 '라임 사태에 연루된 검사 및 야권 정치인 의혹을 철저히 수사하지 않았다'는 추 장관의 입장에 대한 견해를 묻는 유상범 국민의힘 의원의 질의에 이같이 말했다.
윤 총장은 먼저 라임 수사를 이끈 박순철 서울남부지검장이 추 장관의 수사지휘를 문제 삼으며 사의를 표명한 사실을 먼저 언급하며 "전혀 사실에 근거하지 않은 말이다. (나는) 가장 먼저 수사를 철저히 지시한 사람이고, 야당 정치인 관련 부분에 대해서는 검사장의 직보를 받고 '제식구 감싸기'란 욕 먹지 않도록 철저히 하라고 지시했다. 철저히 조사하지 않으면 가을 국감에서 문제될 수 있다는 얘기까지 했다"고 주장했다.
윤 총장은 이어 "10월16일에 김모씨(김봉현 전 스타모빌리티 회장)가 언론사에 보낸 편지에 검사들 접대 얘기가 나왔다"며 "보도를 접하자 마자 10분 안에 서울남부지검장에게 김씨 등을 상대로 철저히 조사해서 접대받은 사람들 다 색출해내라고 지시했다"고 설명했다.
그러면서 "(법무부가) 도대체 무슨 근거로 검찰총장이 부실수사에 관련돼 있다는 취지의 발표를 했는지 저는 도저히 이해할 수 없다"라며 "중상모략이란 단어는 제가 쓸 수 있는 가장 점잖은 단어라 생각한다"고 말했다.
한편 법무부는 지난 18일 "윤 총장이 라임 사건 수사검사 선정에 직접 관여하고 철저한 수사를 수차례 밝혔다"면서도 "(윤 총장이) 야권 정치인 및 검사 비위에 대해서는 구체적 비위사실을 보고받고도 여권 인사와는 달리 철저히 수사하도록 지휘하지 않았다는 의혹 등 그 관련성을 배제할 수 없다"고 발표했다.
이에 대검은 "검찰총장이 해당 의혹들에 대해 철저히 수사를 지시했음에도 이와 반대되는 법무부의 발표 내용은 전혀 사실에 근거하지 않은 내용"이라며 "검찰총장에 대한 중상모략과 다름 없으며 전혀 납득하기 어렵다"고 반박했다.
