필자의 개인 생각으로는 전라북도 출신인 정세균 총리의 차기 대통령선거를 앞둔 출마도 새로운 호남(湖南) 권력을 창출하는 한 대안이 될 수 있다고 본다.
그간 영남 출신 다수가 대통령 자리를 차지해왔다. 박정희-전두환-노태우-김영삼-노무현-이명박-박근혜 전 대통령, 문재인 현 대통령이 ‘영남(嶺南)출신’이다. 만약 전직 대통령 모임이 결성돼 있다면, 호남출신인 김대중 전 대통령만 빼놓고는 모두 영남출신일 것이다. 대통령 자리가 특정 지방 한 쪽에 편향, 치우쳐져 있는 게 사실이다.
