윤상현 무소속 의원이 지난 5일 국민의힘에 복당 절차를 마쳤다. 윤상현 의원은 페이스북에 “그동안 저의 무소속 정치여정 동안 진심어린 걱정과 응원을 보내주신 지역주민 분들의 뜻을 받들고, 제1야당 국민의힘이 지난 총선의 상처를 극복하고 미래로 나아가기 위한 마지막 한 수가 되어달라는 당 지도부의 요청에 응답하고자, 저는 1년 반만에 옛 둥지 국민의힘 복당을 결심하였습니다”고 전하면서 ”많은 고민이 있었습니다. 당의 고비마다 희생양 제물로 바쳐지는 등 누구보다도 어려운 곡절을 넘으며 정치를 해온 저에게, 두차례 연속 수도권 무소속 당선이라는 유례없는 선거기록은 영광이라기보다 차라리 묵직한 시험에 가까웠습니다. 그러나 저 윤상현이 가시밭길을 건너올 수 있었던 근간에는 신의(信義)와 보은(報恩)의 정치가 있었습니다. 그러므로 저는 끝까지 그 신념이 가리키는 곳을 향해 전진해야 한다고 생각했고, 그 믿음을 따라 친정으로 돌아왔습니다.“고 강조했다.
이어 “앞으로 저는 지역주민 분들과 국민 여러분께 신의를 지키고 보은하기 위해 온 몸을 바칠 것입니다. 정권 교체에 밀알의 힘이나마 보탤 것이며, 당이 더 이상 제가 겪었던 뺄셈의 정치가 아닌 덧셈의 정치를 추구하는 정당, 국민에게 사랑과 존중을 받는 정당으로 거듭나도록 배전의 노력을 다할 것입니다. 아울러 오늘 저를 국민의힘으로 이끌어주신 이준석 대표님을 비롯한 당원 여러분께 감사를 드립니다. 저 윤상현은 앞으로 국민의힘을 위해 '쉴 틈 없는 마부’가 되어 무거운 짐을 지고, 모진 눈보라에 맞서 앞장서는 ‘이름없는 셰르파’가 되겠습니다”고 덧붙였다.
