경북교육청(교육감 임종식)이 제56회 전국기능경기대회에서 전년도에 이어 올해도 1위를 차지하며 우수한 성과를 달성했다.

전국기능경기대회는 우수 숙련기술인 발굴과 숙련기술인 사기진작 및 기능경기 저변 확대를 통해 국가 산업발전과 청년 일자리 창출 기여를 위해 개최 되는 것으로 올해는 10월 4일부터 10일까지 7일간 대전광역시 일원에서 개최되었다.
이번 제56회 전국기능경기대회에는 경북의 직업계고등학교 23개교 112명, 39개 직종에 참가하였으며 역대 최고 성과를 만들어 내는 쾌거를 달성했다.
경북선수단은 지난해 87개의 메달을 획득한데 이어 올해는 금메달 13개(학생 11개), 은메달 16개(학생 15개), 동메달 11개(학생 8개), 우수상 9개(학생 4개), 장려상 33개(학생 25개)를 획득하며 경북 직업교육의 저력과 능력을 보여 주었다.
임종식 교육감은 “긴 시간 동안 자신과의 싸움을 즐기면서 꿈의 무대인 전국기능경기대회에서 당당하게 경쟁해 역대 최다 성적을 이루어 낸 경북 학생들에게 따뜻한 찬사를 보낸다”며“ 기능반을 전공심화동아리로 변경 운영해 위기를 또 다른 기회로 삼아 자율적이고 건강한 전공심화동아리 활동으로 한 단계 더 성장할 수 있도록 노력 한 학교, 지도교사, 학생들에게 앞으로도 많은 지원과 응원을 하겠다”고 말했다.
