울진군, 왕피천공원에 세계친환경농업엑스포 기념공간 조성

울진군(군수 전찬걸)이 왕피천공원에 세계친환경농업엑스포 기념공간을 조성해 새로운 명소로 기대되고 있다.

17일 울진군에 따르면 현재 주민들의 휴식처 및 관광지 역할을 하고 있는 왕피천공원은 지난 2005년, 2009년 2회에 걸쳐 세계친환경농업엑스포를 개최한 장소로, 당시 지역주민과 공무원, 관계기관 등 울진군 전체가 하나 되어 100만 명 이상의 방문객을 맞이한 기억은 모두의 가슴 속에 깊이 남아 추억되고 있지만 기념할 만한 장소가 없어 아쉬움이 있었다.

이에 왕피천 공원을 관리하고 있는 시설관리사업소는 주민들의 열망을 담아 작년부터 계획을 수립하여 올해 1월 설계에 착수, 장소 선정 및 형태, 자료 수집 등의 과정을 거쳐 11월 준공했다.

조성된 세계친환경농업엑스포 기념공간은 왕피천공원 내 주광장 측면에 위치한 약 350㎡ 넓이의 농업엑스포 주캐릭터인 ‘농군이, 농심이’대형 조형물이 설치되었던 곳으로, GRC공법을 활용하여 조형미를 더한 실내전시공간을 조성하여 당시 사용 물품과 기념품 등을 전시하였고, 왕피천공원 히스토리와 2005ㆍ2009 엑스포 사진과 기사, 친환경 농업 관련 정보 등을 전시하여 방문객들의 눈길을 끌고 있다.

또한, ‘농군이, 농심이’를 친근감을 주는 조형물로 제작해 포토존을 조성하였고, 산재되어 있던 기념 조형물(엠블럼, 엑스포 공원 비석)을 옮겨와 그 의미를 더하고 있다.

손병수 시설관리사업소장은 “왕피천공원은 세계친환경농업엑스포라는 큰 행사를 진행하면서 조성된 공간으로 그 뿌리를 찾을 수 있다”며, “엑스포를 기억하고 추억하며 더욱 발전하는 왕피천 공원을 만들기 위하여 최선을 다하겠다”고 전했다.
