대구 용계동에 위치한 정동고의 학교위치변경계획이 최종 승인 되어 대구혁신도시로 위치를 옮겨간다.
대구시교육청(교육감 강은희)이 학교법인 호산교육재단이 제출한 정동고 학교위치변경계획을 최종 승인하여 정동고가 2024년 3월 1일자로 대구혁신도시에 옮겨간다고 밝혔다.

정동고는 2022학년도 기준 학급증감 없이 학년당 8학급 전체 24학급 규모로 동일학군(1학군)·권역(안심권) 내 기존 남고에서 남녀공학으로 전환하여 이전할 계획을 전했다.
정동고 이전 예정지는 혁신지구 내 고등학교용지로 시설 결정된 곳으로 고등학교 설립소요가 없어 신설은 어려운 실정으로 혁신도시 내 주민들의 신·이설에 대한 요구가 컸던 곳이다.
이번 정동고의 이전 결정으로 혁신도시의 숙원이었던 학교 문제가 해소되면서 이전 공공기관 직원들의 질적 정주 여건 개선의 단초역할을 할 것인지 이목이 집중된다.
한편 학교재단은 위치를 이전한 이후 2년간 통학버스를 제공하거나 교통카드를 지급하고, 전학을 희망하는 학생은 동일학군 내 다른 학교로 전학을 허용하는 등 통학 대책을 내놓았다.
호산교육재단 김원경 이사장은 “올해 고교설립 40주년을 맞아 혁신도시로의 이전이 확정되어 더욱 의미있는 시기이다”며 “이전하면서 교명 변경(가칭‘새론고’) 을 통해 일신하고, 학생들에게 최고의 교육인프라를 제공하고 우수한 교원역량개발을 통해 지역 최고의 명문사학으로의 발전을 적극 지원하겠다.”고 했다.
강은희 교육감은 “이번 정동고 이전은 학교로서 지역사회의 명문사학으로 재도약하는 발판이 될 뿐 아니라 혁신도시의 지역발전을 가속화하고, 더 나아가 제2공공기관 이전의 견인차가 될 것으로 기대한다.”고 말했다.
