필자는 박근혜 전 대통령이 지난 3.9 대통령 선거에서 어떤 발언을 할지, 또는 어떤 후보를 지지할지에 관심을 두고 있었다. 공식적으로 어떤 후보를 지지하느냐에 따라 대선호부의 당선과 낙선이 달라질지도 모를 일이었기 때문이다.
그래서 본지 자매지인 브레이크뉴스 지난 2월23일에 게재된 “박근혜 전 대통령, 대통령 선거 입장표명...후보 당락(當落)에 영향줄까?”라는 제목의 글에서 “3월9일 대통령 선거를 앞두고 박근혜 전 대통령의 입장표명(대선 메시지)에 관심이 쏠리고 있다. '과연 누구를 지지할까?'의 문제이다. 입장 표명에 따라 표(票)의 쏠림 현상이 있을 수 있기 때문이다. 필자는 1990년 1월 22일, 그날 마포구 동교동의 평화민주당(平和民主黨, 평민당) 김대중 총재 사저에 있었다. 이 날은 집권 여당 민주정의당(민정당)과 제2야당 통일민주당(민주당), 제3야당 신민주공화당(공화당)이 합당을 선언하는 날이었다. 통일민주당 김영삼 총재를 노태우 대통령 이후의 문민 대통령으로 만드는 그 시작이었다. 텔레비전에서는 합당 발표가 보도되고 있었다. 이때 김대중 총재는 이희호 여사에게 포도주 3잔을 부탁했다. 필자는 김대중 총재 부부와 이유를 알 수 없는 '건배'를 하게 됐다. 나중에 깨달은 일이 있다. 김대중 총재는, 3당 합당을 하는 그 순간 '미래는 내가 차지한다'라고 생각했었을 것이라는 점이었다. 이와 같이, 큰 정치인은 가까운 데를 보는 게 아니라 먼 미래를 볼 줄 안다“라고 설명하면서 ”박근혜 전 대통령은 국회의원도 지내고, 당을 이끌어 봤다, 그리고 대통령도 해봤던 큰 정치인이다. 이미 4년 9개월의 수감생활도 경험했다. 산전수전(山戰水戰) 모두 겪은 정치인이다. 그는 이번 선거에서 어떤 입장(立場) 표명을 할까? 어떤 메시지를 던질까? 아니면 멀겠지만 미래의 확실한 지점 목표물을 겨낭 할까? 박근혜 전 대통령은 이번 대통령 선거의 막바지에서 이재명(더불어민주당)을 지지할 것이냐, 아니면 윤석열(국민의힘)을 지지할 것이냐를 놓고 고민할 수 있다. 3월9일 대선에서 확실하게 당선될 후보를 지지할까? 아니면, 미래의 수권(授權) 정당을 지지할까? 그것도 아니면 중도를 선택, 시간을 벌까? 박근혜 전 대통령은 이번 대선에서의 입장표현을 앞에 두고 심각한 고민의 시간을 보내고 있을 듯하다“고 썼다.
이어 “이재명 후보를 지지하게 되면, 자신의 투옥(投獄)을 관리했던 문재인 정권의 재창출을 돕게 되는 처사이다. 윤석열 후보를 지지하게 되면 자신을 탄핵(彈劾)했던 검찰 수사 책임자를 대통령으로 만드는 것을 거드는 형국이다. 박근혜 전 대통령에게 차기 정권 5년 기간은 길 수 있다. 보수정권의 수권이란 정치적인 목표를 가정한다면, 이번 대선에서 뭔가의 입장 표명이 있을 수 있는 것으로 전망된다. 야당이 수권하려면, 보수대통합이 상책이다. 박근혜 전 대통령은 보수정권의 대통령을 지냈으므로 입지(立志) 살리기는 보수대통합이랄 수 있다. 그러나 보수대통합에 무게를 두는 발언을 하는 순간, 국정농단-탄핵의 고통스러웠던 ‘촛불정국’의 과정을 유권자들에 재(再) 각인시켜 보수대통합을 저해(沮害)할 수도 있어 보인다”고 분석하면서 “더불어민주당 송영길 당 대표는 지난 2월 22일 오후 6시 대전서구 정부청사역 집중유세에서 '유영하 변호사가 MBN 방송에서 박근혜 전 대통령을 구속시킨 것은 문재인 대통령이 아니라 2017년 3월 황교안 대행 체제 하에서 박영수 특검과 윤석열이 구속한 것이라 말했다'면서 '문재인 대통령이 그해 5월 9일에 당선됐다. 그 이전인 3월에 구속시켜 놨다'고 피력했다”고 했다.
또한 “그(박근혜)는 사면복권(赦免復權) 됐으니 정치행위가 자유롭다. 정치 행동의 크기에 따라 파괴력이 생길 수도 있다. 보수결집의 힘을 전달할 수 있다. 가까운 정치적 목표에 승부수를 던지는지? 아니면 차차기 대선, 5년 이후의 정치를 지향하는지, 결단의 순간이 다가오고 있는 셈이다. 강도원 정치평론가는 이에 대해 '여우 피하려다 호랑이 만난다'... 박근혜 전 대통령, 이 속담 잊지 마시길...'이라고 조언했다. 그는 '박근혜 전 대통령 지지세력 중에는 윤석열을 용서하지 못하겠다는 이들이 적지 않다. 왜 그런 마음이 들지 않겠는가. 충분히 이해하고도 남는다. 하지만 윤석열을 피한다고 치자. 그 뒤엔 윤석열 보다 더 끔찍할지 모르는 예측불허의 이재명을 만나게 된다는 사실을 우리 속담이 깨우쳐 주고 있다'고 지적했다”고 이어나갔다.

필자가 대통령 선거 이전에 썼던 글을 장황하게 인용하면서 글을 쓰는 이유는 ▲박근혜 대통령은 필자가 예상한대로 윤석열이나 또는 이재명을 지지하지 않았다는 사실과 ▲지난 대통령 선거에서 아무도 지지하지 않고 시간을 벌었으며 ▲필자는 “버스가 지나가도 손을 들고 있으면 또 다른 버스가 오는 세상”이라는 말로, 박근혜 전 대통령의 다음 정치수순을 기대했다는 점이다.
