브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 정호영 보건복지부 장관 후보자의 두 자녀 '아빠 찬스' 논란과 관련, 국민의힘 내부에서도 우려섞인 목소리가 연일 나오고 있다. 반면 윤석열 대통령 당선인측은 "청문회를 통해 적임자인지 판단해달라"는 입장이다.
하태경 의원은 지난 18일 MBC라디오 '김종배의 시선집중' 에서 "본인은 굉장히 억울할 수도 있는데, 제 생각에는 억울하더라도 자진 사퇴하는 게 맞다"며 "이 사안을 판단할 때는 법리적 판단이 아니라 정무적 판단이 중요하다"고 말했다. 두 자녀에 대한 아빠 찬스 논란이 법리적으로 문제가 없더라도 자진사퇴를 촉구한 것이다.
하 의원은 "자식들 의대 편입하는데 있어서 본인의 사회적 자산, 정 후보자의 사회적 자산이 작용했을 수가 있고 그 부분은 국민들 눈높이에서 볼 때는 불공정한 것"이라며 "해법은 자진 사퇴하고 대신에 철저하게 수사 요청을 해서 결백을 입증하는 것"이라고 했다.
김용태 최고위원도 같은날 국회에서 열린 당 최고위원회의에서 "현재까지 제기된 의혹과 정 설명을 볼때 조국 전 법무부 장관과는 달리 위법행위는 없었던 걸로 보인다. 하지만 국민께서 정 후보자를 바라보는 시선은 결코 우호적이지 않다"면서 "윤석열 정부의 공정이 훼손되지 않고 많은 국민이 기대를 저버리지 않도록 거취에 대해 직접 결단해달라"고 촉구했다.
김 최고위원은 "정 후보자는 이해충돌 의혹으로부터 자유로울 수 없다"며 "적극적 위법행위는 하지 않았더라도 자녀 편입과정과 정 후보자가 걸어온 길을 보면 국민의 일반적 눈높이에서 바라볼 때 쉽게 납득하기 힘든 게 현실"이라고 지적했다.
김용태 최고위원은 19일에도 YTN라디오 방송에 나와 "보편적 상식과 관습적인 것과는 다른 것을 가지고 밀어 붙이는 모습에 많은 국민들께서 문재인 정권에 분노를 느끼셨다는 것을 국민의힘은 기억해야 한다"고 정 후보자의 사퇴를 거듭 촉구했다.
반면 당선인측은 "인사청문회도 거치지 않고 당선인 입장을 바라는 것은 조금 조급하다"며 청문회에서 판단해달라고 했다. 배현진 당선인 대변인은 서울 통의동 대통령직인수위원회에서 가진 정례 브리핑에서 "검증의 시간은 국회 청문회로 지켜봐 달라"며 "정 후보자가 국민 앞에서 본인께서 모든 것을 열고 확인하겠다는 의지를 보여주셨다. '교육부 감사, 그다음에 병원 재검 등등 (을 받고) 여러 가지 문제가 발생하면 수사까지 스스로 의뢰하겠다'고 이야기하셨기 때문에 검증의 시간은 이제 국회 청문회로 지켜봐 주시면 좋을 것 같다"고 설명했다.
배 대변인은 이어 "국민들께서, 또 우리 언론인들께서 많은 궁금증을 가지시는 것들을 계속해서 건전하게 제기해 주시고, 법적으로 보장된 청문회 자리를 통해 국민의 눈높이에 맞는 적합한 적임자인지 먼저 판단해 주시면 좋을 것 같다"고 당부했다.
한편 더불어민주당은 "이분이 좀 이렇게까지 뻔뻔하셔도 되나 싶은 수준"이라며 자진사퇴해야 한다고 맹비판했다.
박지현 민주당 공동 비상대책위원장은 19일 MBC라디오 '김종배의 시선집중'에서 "앞으로 윤석열 정부의 5년 동안 공정이 사라지고 이런 일이 계속해서 발생하지 않을까 하는 그런 우려의 지점도 있다. 조국 전 장관 때처럼 (윤 당선인이) 같은 잣대를 적용을 해야 한다"고 주장했다.
