브레이크뉴스 최애리 기자= 현대백화점은 27일 한국백혈병소아암협회에 소아암 환아 학습 활동 지원을 위한 지원금 1억원을 전달했다고 밝혔다.
이날 서울시 강남구 현대백화점 본사에서 열린 전달식에는 김형종 현대백화점 사장, 이중명 한국백혈병소아암협회 회장이 등이 참석했다.
지원금은 장기간 입원치료로 학교 생활이 여의치 않은 소아암 환아들을 위한 교육 공간 조성과 교육 프로그램 개발에 활용될 계획이다.
교육 공간은 서울시 마포구 소재 소아암협회 센터내에 조성되며, 소아암 환아들의 신체적·정신적·사회적 기능을 회복하기 위한 놀이 및 치료공간 등이 들어설 예정이다. 현대백화점은 이번 교육 공간 조성으로 200여 명의 환아들이 수혜를 받을 것으로 기대하고 있다.
또한, 현대백화점과 한국백혈병소아암협회는 어린이날을 맞아 소아암 환아 600명에게 장난감과 학습도구 등을 전달할 예정이다.
김형종 현대백화점 사장은 “장기간 치료를 받은 아이들이 건강하게 자라고 곁에서 돌보는 가족들에게 작은 도움을 드리기 위해 지난해에 이어 올해도 지원하게 됐다”며 “미래 세대의 건강한 삶을 위해 아동과 청소년을 대상으로 한 다양한 후원활동을 이어갈 계획이다”고 말했다.
한편, 현대백화점은 2012년부터 청각장애 아동들의 인공와우 수술비 지원 및 언어치료를 위한 지원사업을 진행하고 있다. 현재까지 200명이 넘는 아이들에게 총 15억원이 넘는 수술비를 지원해 오고 있으며, 올해부터는 만성질환 가족을 돌보는 24세 미만 청년을 뜻하는 ‘영케어러’와 만 18세로 보호시설 퇴소예정인 청소년들의 경제적 지원 사업도 추가로 진행할 계획이다.
