브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 더불어민주당에서 쏘아올린 '김포공항 이전' 공약이 선거판을 뒤흔들며 막판 변수로 작용하고 있다.
6·1 지방선거가 하루 앞으로 다가온 가운데 앞선 여론조사에서 우세를 확인한 국민의힘은 조용히 시간이 지나가길 원하고 있고, 민주당에선 불리한 전세를 뒤집기 위한 선거판 흔들기 전략을 밀어붙이고 있다.
먼저 김기현 국민의힘 공동선거대책위원장은 31일 민주당의 김포공항 이전 공약에 대해 "무책임하다"며 깍아내렸다.
김기현 위원장은 이날 CBS라디오 '김현정의 뉴스쇼'에서 "공인으로서 후보가 나와서 '(과거에) 김포공항을 없애버리겠다고 말한 것은 말장난이다', '협약만 맺은거라 아무 의미가 없다. 안 지켜도 된다'고 말하는 건 무책임한 것"이라며 "말을 꺼냈으면 책임을 져야 하는데 무슨 행동인가"라고 맹비판했다.
앞서 김포공항 이전 공약은 지난 대선 때 송영길 전 대표가 제안했다가 검토 후 철회했다. 그러나 최근 이재명 인천 계양을 국회의원 후보와 서울시장에 출마한 송영길 전 대표는 장기 연구과제로 검토하는 내용의 협약을 맺은 것이라고 설명한 바 있다.
이에 김기현 위원장은 "이재명 후보는 어떻게든 방탄조끼를 입기 위해 모든 수단을 써야겠다고 생각할 수 있을 것이다. 그만큼 위기상황이라 판단했을 것"이라며 "지역구 배지를 다는 게 더 급하니 다른 지역의 반발을 묵인한 다음 공약이 아닌 협약이라고 말바꾸기한 것은 정말 무책임한 것"이라고 지적했다.
그는 이재명 후보가 '김포공항 이전은 제주도 관광산업에 악영향을 미칠 것'이라고 발언한 오세훈 서울시장 후보를 향해 "철부지 악당의 생떼 선동"이라고 비판한데 대해서도 "민주당이 자신들의 잘못과 민생을 돌아보지도 않고 오로지 자기들 목적을 위해 정쟁만 일삼고, 다수의석을 흉기로 삼아 휘두르면서 기가 막힌 짓을 하니 계속 지지율이 떨어지는 것"이라고 일갈했다.

반면 이재명 후보측에선 "국민의힘 역시 이번 지방선거에서 김포공항 완전 이전을 제시한 것으로 밝혀졌다"고 응수했다.
이재명 후보 캠프의 김남준 대변인은 이날 논평을 통해, 국민의힘 기초단체장 후보들이 공약집이나 과거 의정활동 당시 김포공항 이전을 주장한 회의록들을 열거하며 "국민의힘은 이재명 깎아내리기에만 눈이 멀어 내용도 확인하지 않고 헛발질을 하나"라고 반박했다.
김남준 대변인은 이기재 국민의힘 양천구청장 후보가 공약집에서 '김포공항 이전 지속 추진'을 명시한 것을 언급하며 "이기재 후보는 제주도 서울본부장으로도 재임한 경력이 있는데, 국민의힘 주장대로라면 제주도 공직자 출신이 제주도민에 칼을 꽂는 공약을 한 것이냐"고 반문했다.
그는 또한 오세훈 서울시장은 지난해 7월 서울시의회 시정질문에서 김포공항 이전에 대한 견해를 묻는 민주당 최선 시의원 질문에 "상당히 경청하고 검토해볼만한 제안이라고 생각한다고 답했다"면서 "그런데 오세훈 후보는 이재명 후보가 공약으로 제시하니 '졸속 공약'이라고 저주에 가까운 말을 퍼붓고 있다"고 꼬집었다.
그러면서 "이준석 대표를 비롯한 국민의힘은 자당 소속 정치인들이 김포공항 이전을 강력하게 주장했던 사실도 모른 채 오로지 상대 진영의 분열과 갈등을 의도하며 선동을 해왔던 것"이라고 덧붙였다.
