고양시가 지난 27일 국토교통부가 주관하는 2021년 교통문화지수 실태조사 평가에서 최고 등급인 A등급을 받아 교통문화지수 우수지자체로 선정됐다.

교통문화지수는 지역 간 교통문화지수를 비교·평가하여 교통문화 향상을 위한 자율적 경쟁을 촉진하기 위한 지수이다.
운전행태, 보행행태, 교통안전 3개 영역, 18개의 평가지표를 조사하여 매년 한국교통안전공단이 발표한다.
고양시는 교통문화지수 평가지표에서 횡단보도 정지선 준수율, 신호 준수율, 안전띠 착용률 등이 높은 점수를 받아 교통안전에 대한 고양시민의 우수한 의식이 나타났다.

이번 우수 지자체 선정은 21년도 지속가능 교통도시평가(국토교통부) 최우수정책상 수상에 이은 두 번째의 쾌거다.
시 관계자는 “보행자 우선 출발신호와 같은 새로운 교통안전 기법과 교통안전 체계를 도입해 앞으로도 시민과 함께 만드는 교통안전 일류 도시, 교통사고 사망자 제로 도시를 만들겠다”고 전했다.
한편 고양시는 민관경이 참여하는 고양시 교통안전 협의체 조성, 무장애 친화도시 조성사업, 교통혼잡 개선사업, 차 없는 거리 조성, 도로 및 교통안전시설물 확충 등 교통안전과 관련한 다양한 시책을 실행하고 있다. 고양=박정호기자
