브레이크뉴스 최애리 기자= 현대백화점이 고려대학교와 손잡고 ESG경영 강화에 나선다.
현대백화점은 고려대학교와 ‘기후위기 대응 및 ESG 가치 실천을 위한 업무협약(MOU)’을 체결했다고 18일 밝혔다. 서울 성북구 고려대학교 백주년기념관에서 열린 이번 업무협약식에는 김형종 현대백화점 사장, 정진택 고려대학교 총장 등이 참석했다.
현대백화점은 이번 업무협약을 통해 고려대학교와 함께 환경부, 한국기후환경네트워크 등 정부기관과 시민단체가 공동 추진하는 ‘기후위기 취약계층 지원사업’에 참여하는 등 ESG 가치 실천에 적극 나서기로 했다.
먼저, 현대백화점은 혹서기를 맞아 내달 고려대학교 사회공헌원 및 학생들과 함께 서울 종로구 창신동 및 돈의동 쪽방촌 주민 700여 명에게 식음료와 생활용품 등을 전달할 예정이다. 폭염대비 취약계층 지원을 위한 아이디어 공모전도 함께 진행한다.
아울러 현대백화점은 2024년까지 3년간 고려대학교가 추진하는 기후·환경분야 사회공헌활동 수행과 ESG 가치 실천 및 확산에 대한 연구 등에 총 3억원도 후원할 계획이다.
김형종 현대백화점 사장은 “기후위기로 인한 피해는 사회적 약자, 취약 계층이 먼저 볼 수 밖에 없기 때문에 이들을 위한 지속적인 관심과 지원 활동을 이어갈 계획”이라며 “당사와 고려대학교가 가진 인프라를 활용해 ESG 경영 가치를 실천하는 새로운 산학협력 모델로 만들어 갈 것이다”고 말했다.
