[브레이크뉴스=정철규 기자] 진주시 지속가능발전협의회(회장 김철호)는 12일 보령 머드테마파트 컨벤션홀에서 열린 대한민국 지속가능발전대회 시상식에서 진주시가 ‘2022년 전국 자전거 출퇴근 챌린지' 온실가스감축 부문(탄소중립상) 최우수 도시로 선정됐다.
이날 시상식에서 지난 6월 3일부터 30일까지 진행된 ‘2022년 전국 자전거 출퇴근 챌린지' 결과에 따라 전국 최우수도시 3곳이 선정 발표됐으며, 이 중 진주시가 온실가스감축 부문 최우수도시로 뽑혔다. 올해 진주시의 최우수도시 선정은 3년 연속 수상의 쾌거이다.
또한 진주시의 ‘두바세(두바퀴로 열어가는 행복세상)’도 우수단체참가자상 3위를 수상해 아름다운 자건거 도시 진주의 명성을 이어갔다.
진주, 창원, 대구, 대전, 수원, 전주, 당진 등 전국 15개 도시의 지속가능발전협의회 공동주관으로 진행된 ‘2022년 자전거 출퇴근 챌린지’는 온·오프라인으로 시민들의 적극적인 참여를 유도해 UN이 제시한 지속가능발전목표(SDGs) 중 ‘지속가능한 도시와 공동체’, ‘기후변화 대응’의 목표를 실천할 수 있는 계기가 됐다.
이와 관련, 진주시 지속가능발전협의회는 2020년부터 매년 코로나19 극복과 탄소중립 및 기후위기 극복을 위하여 온라인 자전거 이용 캠페인을 이어오고 있다.
특히 지구의 날(4월 22일)과 환경의 날(6월 5일)을 맞이하여 각 1개월씩 2개월 동안 진주시민을 대상으로 ‘진주시민 자전거 출퇴근 함께하기’캠페인도 추진했다.
이달부터는 ‘남강길 따라 도심을 가로지르다’는 주제로 ‘아이바이크진주 시민클럽’ 캠페인을 펼치고 있다.
김철호 회장은 “자전거 출퇴근 챌린지로 시민들의 건강증진은 물론이고 진주시의 아름다운 자전거길을 알릴 수 있는 기회가 됐다”며 “진주시 지속가능발전협의회는 시민들의 자전거 이용 활성화로 온실가스 감축을 일상생활에서 실천하고 탄소중립 및 기후 위기 극복과 해결에 대한 인식을 높일 수 있도록 노력할 것”이라고 말했다.
한편, 진주시 지속가능발전협의회는 시의 지속가능한 발전을 위해 정책을 평가하고 자문하는 민관협력기구로, 2019년 1월 사회·경제·환경·문화 등 분야별 전문가와 시민 등 50명의 위원으로 출범했다.
출범 이후 도시생태, 교육문화, 녹색기업, 마을공동체 등 4개의 분과위원회를 구성하여 시민 100명과 함께하는 원탁토론회 개최, 지속가능발전목표 바로알기 협력포럼, 진주시민 자전거 출퇴근 함께하기, 그린리더 진단 및 컨설팅 사업, 지속가능한 진주 SDGs 희망등 달기 행사 등 다양한 민관 협력행사를 추진해왔다.
지난 7월에는 진주시와 함께 13개월에 걸쳐 지속가능발전기본계획 수립 용역을 추진하여 최종보고회를 가진 바 있으며, 오는 9월에는 지속가능발전 비전 선포식을 개최할 예정이다.
