필자는 한국 주간신문-인터넷 신문 업계에서 긴 기간, 편집-발행 핵심자 중의 한 명으로 살아왔다. 토요신문-일요서울의 편집국장을 지냈다. 이어 주간현대(1997년 창간)-사건의 내막(1998년 창간)의 발행인-오너로서 25년을 지냈다. 31년 간, 주간신문의 발행에 직접 참여해 왔었다. 브레이크뉴스 발행인으로 19년을 보냈다. 인터넷 신문도 어찌보면, 게릴라적 특성을 지녔다. 이 글은 붓 가는대로(자판 두들긴 대로) 쓴 수필적(隨筆的)인 글이다.
필자의 언론계 생활을 뒤돌아보면, 군대와 비교하면, 정규군이 아닌 게릴라 군인처럼 살아온 감이 있다. 주간신문은 주간 단위로 발행되는 신문이다. 그러하니 대규모 취재 인력을 갖춘 신문사나 방송사가 아니었다. 주간신문은 주간 단위의 뉴스나 정보를 취급하는 매체이다. 한 주일 중 가장 이슈가 되는 건을 골라 집중적으로 취재하는 형태를 띠기도 했다.
인터넷 신문은 속보가 생명이다. 그러하니 게릴라전(guerrilla warfare)에 비유할 수 있지 않을까? 특히 주간신문사-인터넷 신문사의 운영은 거대 규모의 자금이 소요되는 게 아니었다. 자금 소요 면에서도 게릴라전과 유사했다.
