[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 창녕군 우포따오기복원센터에서 15일 환경부, 문화재청, 창녕군과 함께 따오기 야생복원을 목표로 제6회 우포따오기 야생방사 행사를 개최했다.
여섯 번째를 맞이하는 이번 행사에서는 따오기 40마리를 야생에 방사했다.
특히, 따오기의 번식률을 높이기 위해 암컷 24마리, 수컷 16마리를 방사했다.
황새목 저어새과인 따오기는 멸종위기 야생생물 2급이자 천연기념물 198호이며, 따오기는 1979년 비무장지대에서 목격된 것을 마지막으로 우리나라에서 멸종됐고, 2008년부터 창녕우포따오기복원센터에서 증식·복원 중에 있다.

따오기 야생방사는 2019년부터 실시해 그간 5차례의 방사를 통해 총 200마리의 따오기를 야생으로 돌려 보냈으며, 창녕군에서 실시하는 모니터링 결과 현재 123마리(생존율 61.5%) 정도가 생존해 있는 것으로 추정된다.
생존 따오기는 우포늪 주변 등 창녕군에서 대부분 관찰되었으며, 도내 합천, 함안, 의령을 비롯해 경북 고령 일대에서 관찰되기도 했다.
한편, 이번에 방사하는 따오기에 대해서도 위치 및 생존 여부, 부상 상황 등을 관리하기 위해 위치추적기를 부착해서 지속적으로 모니터링을 실시한다.
도 관계자는 “자연의 품으로 돌아간 따오기의 성공적인 안착을 위한 지원을 지속해나가겠으며, 건강한 자연환경을 만들기 위해 노력하겠다”고 밝혔다.
