[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 서일준 국회의원이 19일 고용노동부 이정식 장관이 참여한 가운데 대우조선해양에서 개최된 “고용부-경상남도-거제시 합동 간담회”에서 거제시의 고용위기지역 신규 지정이 최종 확정됐다고 밝혔다.
거제의 고용위기지역은 주력산업인 조선업 침체로 지난 2018년 4월 5일 최초 지정된 이후 총 4차례의 연장과 지정을 맞게 됐다.
거제시는 계속된 조선산업의 불황에 생산가능인구 감소, 각종 고용동향 지표 악화로 인해 고용위기지역으로 지정돼 왔으며, 이달 31일 지정기간 종료를 앞두고 있다.
현재 양대 조선소의 수주량은 증가하고 있으나 현장까지 일감이 도달 하는데는 시차가 발생하고, 조선산업의 불황에 따른 기능 인력 유출로 고용보험 피보험자 수는 과거 고용위기 지역 지정시기보다 더 낮아지고 있어 고용위기지역 지정 연장은 불가피한 상황이다.
이에 서일준 국회의원은 경남도 및 거제시와 긴밀하게 협력해 조선업에 대한 현장 상황을 정부에 지속적으로 피력해왔다.
특히 고용노동부 장·차관 등 정부 관계자에게 거제시의 산업ㆍ고용 현황과 지역경제의 고충을 설명하며 지속적으로 고용위기지역 지정의 필요성을 강력히 촉구해왔다.
서일준 의원은 “이번 고용위기지역 신규 지정은 거제 시민들과 조선업계의 절실함이 만들어낸 다행스러운 결과”라며 “연이은 선박 수주로 조선업이 호황기를 맞고 있지만, 그 효과가 지역경제에 미치려면 오랜 시간이 필요하고 여전히 조선업계는 고용위기 상황을 겪고 있다”고 말했다.
