[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 창원특례시는 22일 한국재료연구원에서 최근 화두로 떠오르고 있는 환경·사회·투명경영(ESG)과 지자체의 역할에 대한 이정환 원장의 특강 시간을 가졌다.
이번 특강은 글로벌기업과 대기업 중심으로 빠르게 확산되고 있는 ESG 경영에 대한 정확한 이해와 시대적 흐름을 파악하고 중소기업은 어떻게 움직이고 있으며, 기후위기와 탄소 중립시대에 정부와 지자체의 역할과 대응방안은 무엇이며 우리 사회가 나아갈 미래 방향은 무엇인지를 고민하기 위해 마련됐다.
이정환 원장은 강의를 통해 “ESG 개념은 2005년경 글로벌 금융기관을 중심으로 장기적 가치투자의 지속가능성을 평가하기 위한 지표로 처음 등장했다”며 “최근에는 기후변화에 대응하고자 추진되고 있는 탄소 중립 관련 규제 등 글로벌 환경변화의 흐름이 기업활동에 커다란 현실로 다가와 중소기업은 더욱 어려운 상황에 놓여있으며, 이에 재료연구원이 든든한 지원군이 될 수 있도록 노력하겠다”고 설명했다.
또 기후위기시대의 여러 환경변화 영상을 소개하고, 국내 중소기업의 ESG 현황과 지속발전가능한 미래를 위한 네크워크 구축의 필요성도 강조했다.
박진열 기후환경국장은 “정부의 탄소중립 추진전략에 맞춰, 우리시는 탄소중립녹색성장 조례 제정, 탄소 중립녹색성장위원회 구성, 탄소 중립지원센터 운영 등 탄소 중립 이행체계를 구축했다”며 “기업에 대한 온실가스 감축방안 및 ESG경영 지원을 확대해 나갈 예정이며, 향후에도 전문가 특강을 통해 직원들의 역량 강화에 힘쓰겠다”고 감사의 인사를 전했다.
