브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 국토교통부가 국민들의 대중교통 비용 부담을 줄이기 위해 알뜰교통카드 혜택을 늘리겠다고 밝혔다.
알뜰교통카드는 대중교통 이용 시 정류장까지 걷거나 자전거로 이동한 거리에 비례해 마일리지를 적립해주는 공공 교통카드다. 마일리지는 한번 이용할 때마다 최대 450원, 청년층은 650원이 적립된다.
저소득층의 경우 한번 이용 시 회당 500~900원이 적립되는데, 오는 3월부터는 적립한도를 700~1100원으로 확대한다.
적립된 마일리지는 환급해주거나 자동청구 할인해준다. 이용층에 대한 제한도 없어 국민 누구나 발급받아 사용이 가능하다.
알뜰교통카드는 지난 2019년 도입됐으며 최근 가입자 수가 크게 늘어 54만명을 넘어섰다. 특히 전체 이용자의 74%가 20~30대여서 정부는 청년층의 교통비 절감 정책의 일환으로 카드 혜택을 더욱 늘리기로 했다.
국토부는 오는 7월까지 알뜰교통카드 플러스를 출시하겠다고 22일 밝혔다. 기존 마일리지 적립횟수 상한을 현재 월 44회에서 60회로 늘릴 계획이다. 기존 사용자들도 별도의 카드 발급이 필요치 않고 7월부터 월 60회로 늘어난다.
마일리지 횟수의 증가로 인해 교통비 절감액은 월 1~4만원에서 1만5000~6만6000원까지 늘어날 것으로 예상된다. 저소득층은 월 최대 11만원의 추가 절감 효과가 있다.
또한 가입 카드사도 현재는 신한, 우리, 하나, 로카, 티머니, DGB 등 총 6개사이나, 국민, 농협, BC, 삼성, 현대카드 추가돼 총 11개사가 운영할 예정이다.

원희룡 국토부 장관은 22일 가진 '알뜰교통카드 플러스+ 협력 협약식'에서 "공공요금 인상 등으로 고물가 시기가 지속돼 국민 생활 부담이 점차 가중되고 있는 상황 속에, 알뜰교통카드로 국민 부담을 조금이나마 덜어드릴 수 있어 다행"이라며 "사실상 국내 대부분의 카드사가 함께하는 만큼 그 의미가 매우 크다"고 강조했다.
