사람은 각자 정기(精氣)를 타고 난다고 한다. 인간은 누구나 예외 없이 지수화풍(地水火風)의 영향을 받고 산다. 태어난 고향의 산수(山水) 영향도 받는다. 평야(平野)에 태어났으면 평야의 영향도 받을 것이다. 산 큰 밑에서 태어나 자랐다면 산의 정기가, 큰 강 주변에 태어나 자랐다면 강의 정기를 지니고 있을 터이다. 해안가에서 낳고 자랐다면 바다의 정기가 몸에 배어있음직 하다.
우리나라는 4계절이 또렷한 나라이다. 국토 가운데 70% 가까이가 산이니, 산(山)의 정기를 많이 타고났었을 수도 있다.
정기(精氣)라는 단어가 있다. 사전에서는 “천지 만물을 생성하는 일종의 에너지 형태로 원천이 되는 기운”이라고 설명한다. 사람에게 부여되는 기운(氣運)을 뜻한다.

필자에게도 “나를 보호해주었던 논두렁 정기 같은 게 나의 내면에 있었을까?”를 생각해본다. 올해로 50년째, 기자-작가-언론사 오너로 살았다. 지금도 시사 주간신문인 '주간현대', 그리고 '사건의 내막', 인터넷신문인 '브레이크뉴스'의 발행인이다. 그러나, 언론계의 비주류로 살았다. 하지만, 그게 다행이다. 이게, 결코 자랑은 아니다. 이는 현실이다. 큰 성공은 아니지만, 사회 속에서 내 목소리를 내며 존재해왔다. 그래서 논두렁 정기라도 타고 났는지를 묵상해 보는 것이다. 나의 내면에 엄연히 존재하고 있는, 보이지 않는 기운(氣運), 기(氣)의 묵상을 통한 진정한 나의 확인 작업인 셈이다.
평야지대에서 논두렁은 논두렁으로 이어진다. 논두렁길은 한가한 길이다. 그러나, 논두렁길은 이어지고 또 이어진다. 나는 주류에 끼이지는 않았지만, 논두렁처럼 꼬불꼬불 살았다. 앞으로도, 논두렁처럼 그렇게 사는 길이 남아있는 셈이다.
우주에 살았던 모든 사람들은 각자의 정기가 있었다고 생각한다. 정기란, 자기 안에 존재했던 기운이다. 정기란, 나만의 기운이다. 눈에는 보이지 않은 나의 정기(精氣)와 기(氣)가 나를 이끌고 다녔다. 논두렁 정기를 타고난 나는 평화와 착함(善)을 좋아한다. 평화로운 세상과 착한 세상을 만들어 가는데 조금이라도 기여하고 싶어진다.
