브레이크뉴스 문홍철 기자= 농협중앙회는 지난 달 31일 튀르키예 이스탄불에서 ICAO(국제협동조합농업기구) 집행위원회를 개최했다고 3일 밝혔다.
1951년 창설된 ICAO는 ICA(국제협동조합연맹) 산하의 전 세계농업협동조합을 대표하는 기구로, 현재 34개국 41개 회원기관이 참여하고 있으며, 농협중앙회는 1998년부터 의장기관을 맡고 있다.
ICAO는 2021년부터 대륙별 농업협동조합 프로젝트를 통해 영농자재센터 신설, 탄소중립 농업을 위한 연구 지원 등 각국의 필요에 대응한 프로젝트를 선정해 지원하고 있다.
이날 집행위원회는 이성희 회장을 비롯한 전세계 농업협동조합을 대표하는 7인의 집행위원이 참석한 가운데, 대륙별 프로젝트 결과보고 및 2023년 사업계획을 승인했다. 각국의 농업 관련 주요사항을 발표하고, 청년·여성농업인 지원, 그린농업, 유통·물류 개선 등의 다양한 상생 협력방안을 모색했다.
특히, 올해 ICAO는 회원기관 간 협력을 확대하기 위해 ‘ICAO 디지털 플랫폼’을 구축하기로 결정했다. 해당 플랫폼은 ICAO 회원간의 소통 활성화를 주요 목적으로 하며, 회원기관 상품 및 서비스를 홍보할 수 있도록 하여 협동조합 간 무역 활성화에도 기여할 예정이다.
또한, 이날 오후 집행위원회 특별세션으로 ‘지속가능농업 세미나’ 개최됐다. FAO(국제연합식량농업기구) 튀르키예 사무소 비오렐 구투 대표가 기조연설을 통해 ‘농업에서의 지속가능개발목표(SDGs) 달성과 FAO-ICAO 협력방안’에 대해 강연했으며, 일케이 델랄 앙카라대학교 교수는 ‘기후변화가 농업에 미치는 영향과 그에 대한 대처방안’을 발표했다.
한편, 이날 행사에 앞서 농협과 ICAO는 ‘튀르키예 지진재해 구호성금 전달식’을 진행했다. 이성희 회장과 ICAO 집행위원들은 튀르키예 회원기관인 OR-KOOP(튀르키예 산림조합연합회), ACC(튀르키예 농업금융조합연합회) 회장을 초청해 지진피해 현황을 전해듣고 협동조합간 협동 실천차원에서 적극적인 지원을 약속했다.
