쿠팡은 최근 토마토 수요 급감으로 판로가 끊긴 지역 농가를 돕기 위해 토마토 400여 톤을 오는 23일까지 1주간 매입한다고 17일 밝혔다.
지역 곳곳의 토마토 특산물 등 쿠팡에 토마토를 납품하는 전국 농가 수백곳에서 매입물량을 대대적으로 확대하기로 했다. 최근 일부 방울토마토 품종에서 나타난 복통·구토 증상 등으로 전량 폐기 이슈가 발생했는데, 이번 이슈와 무관한 국내 대부분의 토마토 농가들까지 거래처 납품 중단, 재고 해소 부진 등의 피해가 커지고 있기 때문이다.
쿠팡이 이번에 매입하는 토마토는 충남 부여·논산, 전남 담양·화순, 전북 김제, 화성시 등 전국 각지의 토마토 농가에서 재배됐다. 농산물우수관리(GAP) 인증은 물론, 쿠팡의 품질 관리 전문가(Quality Assurance)의 엄격한 품질 검사를 통과한 상품들이다. 쿠팡 로켓프레시 출범부터 함께한 국내 최대 토마토 생산농협인 부여 ‘세도농협’ 등 소비자로부터 맛과 품질을 검증받은 지역 농가들이 많다.
쿠팡은 오는 23일까지 ‘토마토 농가 돕기 캠페인’을 열고 최대 37% 할인가로 토마토를 판매한다. 캠페인 할인 물량을 과거 진행한 토마토 기획전의 2배 수준으로 확대하는 만큼 다양한 맛과 품종의 상품들을 고객들에게 선보인다. 천연 당류 ‘스테비아’ 토마토부터 흑토마토, 찰토마토, 사과 토마토, 주스용 완숙 토마토 등을 로켓프레시 새벽배송으로 구매할 수 있다.
